UN calls for unimpeded access to Southern Kordofan displaced

Thousands of people displaced by conflict in Kadugli, the capital of Southern Kordofan State,

Access to the civilian population in Sudan’s Southern Kordofan state remains limited despite improvements in the security situation, according to the UN's lead humanitarian agency, OCHA.

There had been shelling incidents in the region but that has now stopped and some displaced people are slowly returning to the main town of Kadugli.

An estimated 73,000 people were displaced in June following clashes between the northern and southern Sudanese armies.

There have also been reports of targeted attacks along ethnic lines in Southern Kordofan

OCHA's spokesperson, Elisabeth Byrs spoke to Patrick Maigua about her concerns for those who are still hiding in the mountains.
