Three million Afghans will be cut off from food assistance because the UN program that feeds them, is short on funds.

The World Food Programme (WFP), which is funded by donations, said it had originally planned to feed more than 7 million Afghanis affected by the ongoing fighting and insecurity in the country.

The agency says it will also have to cut a successful programme that kept children in school, by providing them with meals they could not get at home.

Patrick Maigua in Geneva spoke with Challiss McDonough, WFP's spokesperson in Afghanistan about just how much money it needs.
