Serbia asked to explain delay in arresting war crimes suspect

Serge Brammertz

The Serbian authorities are being asked to explain why it took so long to arrest the war crimes suspect, Ratko Mladic.

The former army commander was arrested in Serbia in May after spending 16 years on the run.

He appeared before the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia on a series of war crimes related to the Bosnian war in the early 1990s.

He has dismissed the charges against him as "obnoxious' and "monstrous".

Ari Gaitanis asked Serge Brammertz the Prosecutor of the Tribunal in The Hague what caused the delay in the arrest.
