Over one billion people across the world are living with disabilities, according to a new report by the World Health Organization and the World Bank.

The report points out that people with disabilities face a number of barriers, including discrimination, and a lack of adequate health care and rehabilitation services.

Dr. Etienne Krug, the World Health Organization's expert in Violence and Injury Prevention unveiled the report in Geneva.

"One big issue is that it tells us that more than one billion people live with disability in the world today. This is about 15 per cent of the world's population and it's more than what we thought. We have been for 40 years saying that it's about 10 per cent of the world's population. And of those one billion, between 110 million and 190 million encounter very serious difficulties in functioning."
