Over 76,000 displaced from the Sudanese disputed region of Abyei

Civilians from Abyei divide up emergency food rations

Over 76,000 people are estimated to have fled the disputed town of Abyei into South Sudan according to the UN Office for the Humanitarian Affairs or OCHA.

Aid agencies say they are working hard to meet the emergency needs before the start of the rainy season.

UN and Sudanese officials as well as diplomats are in Agok, a town south of Abyei, to meet with aid agencies and discuss the current humanitarian situation.
