Honduras voted back into the OAS

Manuel Zelaya addressing UN General Assembly in 2009

Honduras has just been reinstated into the Organization of American States (OAS) after being expelled two years ago.

The Central American nation was suspended after its former President Manuel Zelaya was forcibly removed from power in June 2009.

The regional organization which promotes democracy made the decision after Zelaya was allowed to return from exile.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon says he hopes this move will give a boost to peace and reconciliation efforts.
