HIV infection among men who have sex with men, particularly in industrialized countries is on the rise according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

WHO has come out with it's first-ever guidelines on the prevention and treatment of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections for men who have sex with men and transgender people.

The 21 recommendations include anti-discrimination laws, measures to protect human rights and providing more inclusive services.

Gottfried Hirnschall, the director of WHO's HIV/AIDS department says men who have sex with men are nearly 20 times more likely to be infected with HIV than general populations.

"Quite frankly if we want to eliminate HIV if we do not pay major emphasis to the epidemics in key populations we will not be able to eliminate it."
