Flooding in Côte d'Ivoire threatens more than 28,000

More than 28,000 people living in and around Abidjan, the commercial capital of Côte d'Ivoire, are being threatened by flood waters.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, OCHA, says it is looking at measures to relocate the threatened population, but more funding is needed.

OCHA's Elisabeth Byrs says the Emergency Humanitarian Action Plan for Côte d'Ivoire is only 28 per cent funded, which translates to only $ 44 million contributed against a total requirement of $ 179 million.

"The humanitarian response to vulnerable populations would be impeded in the absence of increased funding."
