Empowering young, HIV positive women in Nepal

2011 High Level Meeting on AIDS

Being young is hard. Being young and HIV positive is even harder.

Now add to that being a young girl or woman, and you can find yourself in the margins of society.

Gaj Gurung, a 23 year old Nepalese man witnessed this many times in his patriarchal society.

He calls this the "multiple layers of discrimination", which is why he decided to become an advocate for Nepalese HIV positive women by creating the "positive women network" or NFWLHA.

He spoke to Gerry Adams during the big AIDS conference taking place at the UN in New York.
