Brazil demonstrates leadership in peace and security

Brazil has been demonstrating its leadership in the areas of peace and security around the world, according to United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

The Secretary-General was speaking in the Brazilian capital Brasilia where he met with President Dilma Rousseff, Foreign Minister Antonio Patriota and other senior officials.

Mr. Ban said that Brazil is strategically positioned to build consensus between developed and developing countries as a member of both groups known as the G20 and G77.

"In peace and security area Brazil has been demonstrating their leadership. In Haiti they have been sending troops, sending humanitarian assistance team. General Perreira is now heading this MINUSTAH as Force Commander. They have been sending peacekeepers to Timor Leste and their peace-building contribution in Guinea Bissau led by Ambassador Viotti as Chairman of this Peace Building Commission is very much appreciated."
