The United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has sought re-election for a second term as the head of the organization.

Mr. Ban was speaking to reporters on Monday about a wide range of issues and his recent missions around the world.

He said that throughout his time in office, he has sought to be a bridge builder among UN Member States, within the United Nations system and among a wide variety of global partners.

"This morning, I sent a letter to the membership of the General Assembly and the Security Council, offering humbly myself for consideration for a second term as Secretary-General of the United Nations. It has been an enormous privilege to lead this great Organization. If supported by the Member States, I would be deeply honoured to serve once more."
