It's been 30 years since the first case of AIDS was identified and while there is still no definitive cure or vaccine, a lot of progress has been made in fighting the epidemic.

That includes life saving drugs and even a treatment that yielded a very promising result.

One of the leaders in the support of research is amFAR, the American Foundation for AIDS Research.

The organization is taking part in a UN conference on HIV/AIDS that is brining together world leaders in New York.

Julie Walker spoke with Rowena Johnston the Vice President and Director of research for amFAR about the latest medical advances in the fight against HIV and AIDS.
