Africa celebrates Public Service Day

Mizengo Pinda

1.75 billion people in the world live in poverty and a quarter of them are in Africa, according to Tanzania's Prime Minister Mizengo Pinda.

Poor leadership and corruption, he adds, are the reasons behind it.

Pinda was speaking at an event in the capital Dar es Salaam celebrating Africa Public Service Day.

The event also coincided with the UN's Public Service Awards, which saw the participation of delegates from around the world.

Stella Vuzo reports.
