73,000 displaced by fighting in the South Sudan, Kordofan region

Residents of Kadugli gathered outside UNMIS sector HQ after fleeing fighting in Kadugli town.

Humanitarian agencies say they are still unable to freely access tens of thousands of people in the South Sudan Kordofan region.

An estimated 73,000 people have been displaced since early June when fighting broke out between Forces of north and South Sudan.

Many of the displaced took refuge by the UN Mission in Sudan's compound in Kadugli, but have since left to return or go elsewhere.

Elizabeth Byrs is from the UN Humanitarian Affairs agency, OCHA.

"We are still concerned by what happened to those who fled toward the mountains, who are hiding in caves of in the bush we don't how many are there and we need to have access to those people."
