Training for non-governmental organizations, or NGOs, in Iraq is helping staff follow the correct registration procedures so that they can do their work.

A registration awareness project for NGOs has been developed, by the United Nations Office for Project Services and the International Centre for Not-for-Profit Law.

Julia Paul reports.

Workshops began in Erbil this week to prepare trainers. They'll be travelling around the country and are expected to reach more than 600 organisations.

The workshops are being run by the United Nations Office for Project Services and the International Centre for Not-for-Profit law.

A handbook will also be produced for NGOs to help them obtain and renew their registration certificates.

Once they are properly registered, it is hoped the NGOs will be able to tackle issues such as improving basic services and meeting the needs of young people.
