The international community should act with unity and consistency on North Africa and the Middle East according to the Secretary-General of the UN.

Ban Ki-moon has been attending the Group of Eight (G8) summit of industrialized nations in Deauville, France.

Charles Appel reports.

“Arab unrest has been the key theme of the G8 summit.

Ban Ki-moon urged the international community to act together on the Middle East peace process saying it was time to take what he called ‘risks for peace’.

Focusing on the continuing unrest in North Africa, he also called for increased support for humanitarian assistance, both for affected populations in Libya and in neighbouring countries.
