That’s the assessment of Ambassador Peter Wittig, the chairman of a Security Council Committee dealing with Al Qaeda, the Taliban and associated individuals and entities.

Ambassador Wittig reported on the work of the Security Council Committee which monitors the implementation of sanctions against the terrorist groups and individuals and entities linked to them.

“The death of Osama bin Laden constitutes clearly an important landmark, a turning point. However, it is neither the end of Al Qaeda nor the end of terrorism. The rigorous implementation of the sanctions measures remain essential since various groups associated with Al Qaeda remain active around the world, constituting a continued threat to international peace and security.”
