Somali politicians come together in "unprecedented move"

The President of Somalia and the speaker of the parliament have been brought together in what's been described as "an unprecedented move" to discuss the political paralysis in the Horn of Africa country.

They met a United Nations Security Council mission in an attempt to break the political deadlock over the date for elections in Somalia.

Somalia has not had a properly functioning government for over two decades.

Ambassador Augustine Mahiga, the UN Special Envoy to Somalia, told Gerry Adams the meeting resulted in three important outcomes.
