The situation in and around the Sudanese town of Abyei which was looted and burned by gunmen early this week remains volatile.

The oil-rich Abyei district remains a potential flash-point between the north and south of Sudan.

A referendum planned for January to decide which part of Sudan it will belong to was postponed.

The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) says that the Sudanese Armed Forces maintain their presence in the town.

Elisabeth Byrs of OCHA told Patrick Maigua what the UN mission in Sudan has found in Abyei town.
