Nepal ranks in the bottom ten in the global press freedom index, according to Reporters without borders. Journalists have repeatedly undergone attacks by the State and other political parties. Last year alone, three media owners were murdered for unknown reasons and two major newspapers in Kathmandu torched.

However, Axel Plathe, Head of the UNESCO Office in Kathmandu, tells Jocelyne Sambira there have been some promising advances in regards to press freedom in Nepal.

And although the traditional media outlets like radio are hugely popular, the digital revolution is also hitting the country and starting to shape the media landscape in the country.
