Haiti's president-elect, Michel Martelly, has received congratulations from UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, ahead of his inauguration on Saturday.

UN spokesman Martin Nesirky says that the UN Secretary-General spoke by phone with President-elect Martelly on Wednesday.

“The Secretary-General said that he would be dispatching a high-level UN delegation to represent him at the inauguration. The delegation will be headed by the Deputy Secretary-General and will also include the Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, Alain Le Roy, and UNDP Associate Administrator, Rebecca Grynspan.”

Haiti is facing a massive programme of reconstruction after the devastating earthquake that struck on 12 January 2010.

The country is also grappling with a cholera outbreak, which has killed more than 4,600 people and infected thousands of others.
