Mr Ban was presented with the Women’s Leadership Award at the Global Summit of Women being held in Istanbul, Turkey, in front of more than 1000 women from over 80 countries.

He joked that more gender equality was needed with the award of such prizes.

“I am keenly aware that I am the first man in 21 years to receive this award. [applause] You should recognize there there has not been gender equality when it comes to prizes.”[laughter]
