On Saturday, the new president of the West African country, Alassane Ouatarra, was inaugurated following six months of conflict after the previous president refused to step down.

Ban Ki-moon attended the inauguration in the capital Yamoussoukro and after the ceremony warned that challenges still lay ahead.

“The number of armed groups has multiplied. Too many weapons remain in the community. We have to collect them all. Therefore, the most important challenge is the stabilization of the situation, the security situation and the reestablishment of law and order throughout the country to prevent a security vacuum.”
