Chinese Language Day celebration

With the music of the China Conservatory in the background, Chinese Language Day was celebrated at the United Nations on April 20th. The day was chosen to pay tribute to Cang Jie, a mythical figure in Chinese folklore who is presumed to have invented Chinese characters about 5,000 years ago. A series of activities, including workshops for writing Chinese calligraphy, a martial arts demonstration and performances of traditional music, took place at UN Headquarters in New York to mark the Day.
