The United Nations mission in Afghanistan says the new panel, made up of three Afghan and three international experts, is an important development in fighting corruption in the country.

The committee will report regularly on efforts to fight corruption in Afghanistan.

Last year, Transparency International, a non-governmental organization, ranked Afghanistan 176 out of 178 countries where corruption was evaluated.
