UNICEF is calling for an immediate end of the siege of Misrata.

Charles Appel reports.

UNICEF says that intensified fighting and indiscriminate shelling has led to an increased number of children being killed in Misrata.

The agency says it has verified that at least 20 children, some of them as young as 9 months old have been killed in Misrata and many more injured by bullets, as well as shrapnel from mortars and tanks.

UNICEF is also concerned that many others don’t have food and safe water and are traumatized from the atrocities they have witnessed, the agency adds.

Fighting between forces loyal to Libyan leader Muammar Qadhafi and opposition forces is entering its seventh week in and around Misrata.
