The experts say that the authorities should “urgently” address the underlying causes of the recent protests in the country.

Charles Appel reports.

The ten human rights experts have denounced the rising death toll and what they call a “brutal crackdown” on peaceful protesters in Syria.

They say the crackdown is happening despite the government’s promises to end the 48-year-old emergency rule.

They’ve urged the Syrian authorities to immediately stop the repression and introduce democracy.

At least 200 people are reported to have died in Syria since the beginning of protests in mid-March.
