UNDP has been working with the Caribbean island nation to map out the danger zones for future earthquakes and to plan for stronger buildings.

Eric Calais is a seismologist at UNDP.

“When the next earthquake hits Haiti we have to be sure that the country is prepared. Haiti cannot afford being as poorly prepared as it was on 12 January 2010.”

Last year’s quake killed more than 200,000 people and injured even more while it left nearly a quarter of the country homeless.
