Nigerian Ambassador discusses Côte d'Ivoire
It’s time for incumbent President Laurent Gbagbo of Côte d’Ivoire to surrender and leave the country so that the process of national reconciliation and reconstruction can begin. That’s the view of Ambassador Joy Ogwu of Nigeria, a Security Council member. President Gbagbo has refused to hand over power to Alassane Ouattara, the internationally recognized winner of last year’s presidential election. Forces loyal to President Outtara have launched a final assault on Mr. Gbagbo’s presidential residence. Derrick Mbatha discussed the crisis in Côte d’Ivoire with Ambassador Ogwu.
