Inclusive political process needed to resolve Libya crisis

World leaders have been urged not to waiver in calling for a political process that will allow the Libyan people to choose their own future.

Speaking in Cairo, Egypt the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon also expressed concern about the grave humanitarian situation in the country.

Fighting continues between government forces and pro-democracy rebels in Libya as NATO maintains the UN-mandated “no-fly” zone.

Mr Ban said the Libyan people need the backing of the international community.

“We call for an inclusive political process through which the Libyan people can choose their own future. That process should also meet the legitimate demands and aspirations of the Libyan people for democracy, freedom, the rule of law and socio-economic development. The world must not waiver. The Libyan people deserve no less.”
