Piracy on the rise

Already this year nearly 100 pirate attacks have occurred and 15 ships have been hijacked.

The UN fund already spent $7 million on upgrading security infrastructure in the troubled region over the past 2 years.

The pledges were made at a conference in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, where shipping industry leaders, government officials and international experts are also calling for land based initiatives to fight piracy.
