Nearly 2,000 Tunisians have landed on the Italian island of Lampedusa on Tuesday, bringing the total of Tunisian migrants in Italy to 10,000 since mid-January. The huge numbers of migrants are putting a strain on the small island, overcrowding its sole reception centre. The outflow from Tunisia is unrelated to the ongoing crisis in Libya. Most of the migrants are young men who are looking for jobs and better economic prospects rather than international protection. Frederico Fossi, UNHCR spokesperson in Rome spoke to Jocelyne Sambira about the current situation.
