This warning has come from the top United Nations envoy for Somalia, Ambassador Augustine Mahiga.

He says that people in the areas controlled by the Al-Shabaab insurgents are desperately in need of food and forced to flee to areas where they have access to humanitarian assistance.

Ambassador Mahiga is calling for the mobilization of more resources so that the World Food Programme (WFP) can feed people.

“The pipeline for food is at the moment reasonably stocked but in less than three months they will be drying up and WFP will need more food resources and there is need to mobilize additional funding for the provision of food. There is also need for trucks for the distribution of food both heavy trucks and medium sized trucks.”
