Close to 2.4 million people’s lives in Somalia are at risk as a result of conflict and drought, according to the top United Nations envoy for the country. Ambassador Augustine Mahiga says people in areas controlled by the Al-Shabaab insurgents are desperately in need of food and forced to flee to areas where they have access to humanitarian assistance. He is calling for the mobilization of more resources so that the World Food Programme (WFP) can procure food and logistics to distribute it. Ambassador Mahiga spoke to UN Radio’s Derrick Mbatha about the unfolding humanitarian crisis in the Horn of Africa country.
