Yemeni security forces reportedly opened fire on demonstrators in Sana’a last week, killing more than 50 people.

Ban says “the Government of Yemen has an obligation to protect civilians” and is calling for restraint and an end to violence.

He also called on the authorities to solve the country’s political crisis and maintain national unity.

The Secretary-General is in the region visiting Egypt and Tunsia where he is meeting with world leaders.
