Japan continues to deal with the aftermath of that 9.0 magnitude earthquake and tsunami that devastated the country on March 11. Worries over radiation leaks from the damaged nuclear power plant in Fukushima are a daily concern for residents, as is the quality of the air, water and food in the country.

Timor-Leste police take responsibility for law and order in country

Timor-Leste has begun a new chapter in the country’s history, as the national police force assumed primary responsibility at the end of March for law and order there. This follows 5 years in which the United Nations peacekeeping mission was in charge of policing the small South-East Asian country.

Conflict in Pakistan forces families into border camps

Conflict in north-west Pakistan is forcing thousands of people to flee their homes. In the past few weeks, more than 4,000 families have been displaced as a result of fighting between Pakistani troops and militants. Many of those who are displaced end up in temporary camps along the countries border with Afghanistan.
