The World Health Organization (WHO) is supporting a Japanese government directive, telling people not to eat leafy vegetables or drink milk products from the contamination zone.

WHO spokesman Gregory Hartl says this is a precautionary measure.

“One could consume on a repeated basis vegetables and or milk products so that the amounts could accumulate in the body. And two, there is more definitive information about the patterns and types of radiation and which products it exists, which products are contaminated. This is a proper precautionary measure to have taken.”

The Japanese government is also monitoring seafood after high levels of radioactive materials were found in the seawater.
