New energy efficient building opened in Nairobi

A new energy efficient building for the offices of two major United Nations agencies has been officially opened in Nairobi, Kenya by United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

The building is housing the UN Environment Programme and UN-HABITAT, the agency dealing with human settlements.

It has 6,000 square metres of solar panels, energy saving lighting, natural ventilation systems, rainwater collection and other innovative green features.

The Secretary-General described the building as “beautiful, comfortable and efficient” and “a living model of our sustainable future.”
