The United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) says the LRA has intensified its raids this year.

Charles Appel reports.

The United Nations refugee agency says that since the start of the year, it has received reports of 52 raids by the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA).

UNHCR estimates that approximately 35 people have been killed, 104 abducted and 17,000 others displaced.

The agency is particularly worried that the rebels appear to have shifted from preying on people in isolated and remote locations to targeting more populated areas.

It says the LRA’s latest attack was on February 24th in the town of Banangana where eight persons were killed and 30 others abducted.
