Libya proposes new Ambassador to UN

A former UN General Assembly President and Nicaraguan Foreign Minister is reportedly Muammar Qadhafi's pick to represent Libya at the UN.

But, the Secretary-General’s office says it has not received a formal request from the Libyan leader to appoint Miguel d’Escoto Brockman.

“We did receive a copy of a note from Nicaragua which was not addressed to the UN, but to all permanent missions in NY and that note attached a copy of the letter from Moussa Koussa to the Secretary-General concerning the appointment of Mr. d’Escoto as representative of Libya to the UN. We wish to stress that the letter was not received officially by the UN it was hence not logged.”
