Jamaica says children in need of care and protection receiving attention at the highest levels of government

Jamaica says children in need of care and protection is a matter which is receiving attention at the highest levels of government. Its representative on the UN Human Rights Council Ambassador Wayne McCook told the council in Geneva that the Child development Agency and the police are working to ensure that children in need of care and protection are removed as quickly as possible from lockups to children’s homes.
He made his comments in response to a report on Jamaica by the Special Rapporteur on torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.
