More Afghan farmers growing poppy for heroin production

There is an increase in the number of farmers in Afghanistan growing poppy seeds, which is the main ingredient in heroin.

There’s also an increase in illegal drugs moving through Africa, as smugglers find new routes to circumvent the law.

Those are just some of the topics being discussed at the 54th session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) meeting in Vienna.

Anne Thomas of the UN Information Service in Vienna spoke with Yury Fedotov, the Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) about the illicit drug trade.
