Afghan civilians are paying the price of war with their lives and in great numbers, according to a report by the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan and the Afghan Independent Human Rights Commission. 2,777 civilians were killed last year due to an intensification of the armed conflict in Afghanistan, the report says, calling on parties to the conflict to do more to protect civilians.
