African migrants from Libya arrive in Italy

Nearly 830 African migrants from Tripoli and Misurata have arrived by boat on the Italian Island of Linosa and are being transferred to Sicily.

This is the first group of migrants fleeing Libya to arrive in Italy since the crisis started in the North African country more than a month ago.

Jumbe Omari Jumbe is the spokesman for the International Organization for Migration.

“Nearly 830 African migrants from Tripoli and Misurata arrived on the Italian island of Linosa over the weekend. The Italian government has started to transfer to Sicily. They are mostly Africans and they mostly come from Eritrea, Ethiopia, Sudan and Somalia.”
