Security Council to discuss “egregious crimes” in Libya

The United Nations Security Council is set to discuss what have been described as the "egregious crimes" committed by the Libyan leadership against its citizens.

The Security Council issued a statement on Libya earlier in the week but there has been criticism that it has not taken a tough enough stand.

The United Kingdom is one of the five permanent members of the council.

Mark Lyall Grant, the UK Ambassador says the unrest in Libya is spreading across the region.

“There is a wave of protests against autocratic regimes across this particular region and the people have demanded greater freedom, greater participation in their political governance and that is something to be welcomed and something to be supported.”
