Poor most affected by rise in food prices

Global food prices have hit record highs, according to the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) which recently reported that prices for some core staples had surpassed those seen during the 2007-8 food crisis.

But what are the causes of this price rise, and how has it affected some of the poorest in the world?

Hyun-Sung Khang spoke to Shaun Roache of the IMF and Hassan Zaman of the World Bank’s Poverty Reduction and Equity Group.

Mr Roache began by explaining the reasons behind the price increases.
