John F. Kennedy remembered on President’s Day

President John F Kennedy

President John F Kennedy

Forty-eight years ago, US President John F. Kennedy stood before the United Nations General Assembly and delivered a historical speech. In a separate address to the American staff of the United Nations, he praised their important contribution to the advancement of mankind. He also noted the UN’s crucial role in global affairs, going as far as to say, “If there wasn’t a United Nations, we would certainly have to invent one.”

On February 21, as Americans celebrate President’s Day to honour the work of those who sat in the highest office of the United States government, UN Radio has this excerpt of Kennedy’s 1963 speech at the UN.
