“Invest in adolescents”: UNICEF

Young Women

Developing countries should be investing more in young adults in order to help them break out of poverty.

In its “2011 State of the World’s Children” report (released on Friday in New York), the UN Children’s Fund, UNICEF, says adolescence is a “pivot point” at which children may drift back into poverty or become productive members of society.

The report focuses on the inequalities suffered by young women.

Daniel Dickinson asked Mima Perisic from UNICEF’s Adolescent Development Unit why it’s important to focus on young women.
