Mr. Ouguergouz has welcomed the adoption of the law on the Independent National Human Rights Commission in the country.

He is urging the authorities in Burundi to appoint without delay the commissioners following an open, transparent and democratic process.

“This Commission has been created by law. The law has been adopted by the legislative power: the National Assembly and Senate and has been recently promulgated by the President of the Republic of Burundi. It’s now to make it effective. That means to elect the seven members of this Commission, provide this Commission the means to function properly.”
