UN chief reiterates support for Lebanon tribunal

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has reiterated his support for the work of the tribunal to prosecute people accused of assassinating former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri in 2005.

The Secretary-General met with Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri, the son of the late Lebanese leader, on Sunday evening.

He stressed that the tribunal is an independent body and expressed the hope that its work will end impunity in Lebanon.

The Secretary-General and the Prime Minister also discussed regional and other efforts to promote stability including Lebanese concerns on the maritime boundary issues, as well as the Middle East peace process.
